Well i know how Redditch is feeling as all we have had to day is mostly rain, got soaked setting the decoys up, then after a while the sun peeked thu and i got a nice pic of 'two rainbows' then we had a hail storm with thunder, back to rain, after not even getting a shot, i packed up and it did start to clear a bit so i went and stood under a flight line for pigeons, managed to shoot 8 and found 6, then another storm was heading my way so i went back to the motor and came home, still theres allways next weeks trip to look forward to, you will notice i told my dog to smile when i took his picture today LOL, cheers.
Ugh.. I know the feeling.. here in Texas the weather can be 30 one day then 90 the next... or both in one day... and our ground is mostly clay so you get 30 extra pounds of muck on your feet.. Kudo's for sticking it out.. I'm hoping to head out tomorrow (Sunday)... going to teach my 15 year old niece how to drive stick and 4x4 in the mud.. then shoot guns and kill stuff.. if she doesn't back out I'll post a bunch of pictures.
Thank your pooch for smiling.. I know the rain made it extra hard!
Well, its still raining here, and winter hasn't given up, as we still have the odd days of heavy snowfall, which lasts about 10 hours, then once we have 1-4 inches, it changes back to rain and washes it away again. So all the fields are back to being bogs, and no end in sight
Must be raining or snowing everywhere right now. We can only hunt crows in NC on Wed, Fri.,Sat. and holidays and this week I had planned to go local and shoot a few but it rained all week now with our big day,(Sat.) here it is suppose to clear up but the wind is suppose to blow 15-25mph and about a high of 45F. Got a good field lined up but getting down wind of the birds for our setup is suspect.
Had a call this week that there was a flock of 1000 birds spotted feeding in a wheat field on Monday about an hour from my house. OMG, would not say where because two locals, father and son were going to hunt them. They did and they killed 20. 20/1000 .02%. Moral of story! Be prepared when going into a field with this many crows. Have a game plan, prepare a proper hide and get the wind in your favor. And if your not selfish, take someone who knows how to crow hunt with you so you can put a dent in the population instead of educate all 1000.
I generally try and get a friend to come with me, as they after come from different directions, and can guarantee I'll be looking in the wrong direction of a lot come. So we split up and put about 100 metres between us, so we sandwich them coming in to the decoys. I try and avoid continuous rain as the fields turn to bogs and I and the equipment gets covered in mud. Also the rain isn't good on the equipment. Odd showers aren't a problem, but continuous, no way
