Who takes the shot?

we take turns on 1st shots, be it ducks or crows, if its a single we what until the other guys gun is empty before we shoot, if its alot of birds (crows or ducks)after the 1st shot its a free for all. geese the same, once the 1st shot goes off watch out. and who ever took the last shot of the day is the 2 nd shooter on the next hunt . seem to work out most of the time LOL 10 ga evileye

Gary you have a valid point about the trailing bird flaring... but for me I suppose I'm in a unique position, because I crow hunt with my father... or I go solo.

My father is not an avid hunter, although he does LOVE to shoot the crows... 99% of the time I am the "eye in the sky" and I call out and dictate the shot... you can see this first hand in one of my videos where I'm directing my dad ,...."wait, wait, wait.....shoot that one"...

I usually don't stand more then 50 feet from him and I almost always take the "clean up" possition because I want the old man to have shots.... and if its a crap day...he gets them all... I don't want him to stop going out...

I feel the rush, and just the trip itself helps keep him young...and alive...plus it's the best excerise we can get...because we are doing something we love.... huffing and puffing aint no thang...

How far apart do you guys spread out? 50 yards?

The A-Team usually hunts with at least three people. How we set up makes shot selection in most cases automatic. We spread out in our run and gun which creates shooting lanes for each. If the bird(s) come from your way you take the shot. We have had times where one guy just happens to be in the right lane and he will kill 50% of the birds, next set up the other guy may have the luck. I hunted with a shot hog a couple seasons ago and on one particular hunt the only way to get a shot in was to double tap his crows... I'm not sure if he got the hint...but after I double and triple tapped some of them I started to get shots of my own.

If a crow catches an extra round or two that's ok... I just can't stand the whole... if it comes into range it's anyone's bird.. when that happens I have found that people start to compete for that "first shot" of the volley and shots get taken farther and farther out... not fun, in my opinion.... I like the way you guys set up... Next season Im going to stick my father farther away from me and set the caller between us... we'll see how he does...

With crows we try to shoot simultaneously. Even if it's a single one. The aim is to bring down as many as possible. We usually hunt with two people in a hide. We set the decoys up in a way that we can shoot to our left since most people I hunt with are right handed. If a flock aproaches we TRY to hit different birds - obviously that does not always work :) A dead crow is a dead crow, it does not matter to us who killed it - as long as I get more than my dad :) but that's not easily done!! We don't have a limit on ducks, so if you get a shot, take it. But then again, we dont use decoys, it's all walked up ducks on small rivers - different situation alltogether. I can see, why you'd be annoyed if somebody got greedy. I'd know what to do in that case :)

So poorly as my partner and I shoot the more shot it the air the better. Seriously we usually shoot zones. Neither one of us are shot hogs and I don't think either one of us would care if the other was. I do waterfowl with a couple guys who call "take em" as they are pulling the trigger on the first bird. That annoys me to no end.
