While everyone else is starting to shoot crows on a small scale from midwest to across the pond we here in the south kinda have to wait for deer season to be over (Jan. 1) to really enjoy and good shoots with high numbers. Ever square mile here is leased to deer hunters and it is hard to find spots to hunt. SOOO, while the wait is on I join in and deer hunt. Shot this one behind my house on my farm.
whoa that is one crazy rack.. I like how tall it is... looks like some really good knife handle material there... I wonder how well an antler would hold together if made into a crow call?
You know the antler is solid bone, just don't know what kind of turning tool would be used to cut the bone without breaking it. I'll bet you will figure it out, Mr. Wizard.
nice work Gary, do you ever turn the deer heads in to euromounts, as that would make a good one, also is the deer butchered and eaten by your self or sold on, cant beat a nice leg of venison done in a roast, most of the deer round here are very small and theres not a lot of meat on them unfortunatley

I'm pretty sure the tools I use for wood..would work fine.. I think going slow and being careful is key... it's been so long since I've hunted deer I did a little online research.. looks like the inside of a deer antler is kind of honey combed..like bubbles. I'm sure...just like trees the right piece could be found. The price for a chunk wasn't that bad either; I may just give it a try.
Corvid, If he is a very large racked buck I will have it mounted, otherwise I take a few pictures and cut the antlers off for keep sake. And yes my family eats everything we kill except crows. I have seen a few videos of people eating crows but they are not for me.
