ive now been a keen crow shooter for 5 years,  and ive never shot or seen a hooded crow arround here, today when i pulled up at the pig pens, i coudent beleive it, there in amongst the carrion crows was a 'hoody' !!!!!!! i slid the gun out of the case, and practicly crawled up to the edge of the pen, the carrion crows had spotted me and flew off, but the hoody still stood there and could not make out what was wrong he was about 40-50 yards out in the pen, i aim fired and missed, stood up for the second shot and hit him but not enougth to bring him down, then he came right towards me, and like a idiot i had only put two shells in the gun and had no more cartridges, so i had to see him fly over my head and fly away, i could have cried no, still one day i will get one. heres a pic of one, dont know if you get any thing like them across the pond, they are common in scotland and the north but very rare around where i live.

OH man that sucks, you did get me pumped up though.. I love stalking game.. Not sure how well you hit him, but from being a parrot owner I can tell you.. a birds blood does not clot well.. so poorly in fact that if you pluck out a "blood feather" and don't stop the bleeding a bird can and very often will bleed out in minutes... I bet that crow is dead just outside of where you shot it.

I have never heard of anyone shooting a hooded crow in America.. I did a quick Google search and a couple of sites came up with users claiming they've seen "Hoodys" in the U.S. I can tell you... if I see one and have the chance to harvest it.. it's going on a piece of driftwood.

If it weren't for the black head I would say it looks like our bluejay?  It would make a beautiful mount and a rare one at that.

Maybe your day is near.  You know what they say, where there is one there is another!

Should come here, carrions, hooded, greys, jackdaws and rooks, its full of them here. Not many jays though, and ravens (not allowed to shoot) are rare too. Lots of magpies but you rarely get to shoot one as they are very very wary

Hi Reddich,
Did you get the MID in the end? Without it, I'd still be Magpieless! :)
It's great for stirring things up. Unfortunately SAM is so bogged down with the FT3 that he can't deliver the MID at present...

Yep, I got the MID call too. Unfortunately, as with most calls here, doesn't work unless they are intent on commiting anyway. The best is if they are thinking of commiting, then give a short balst. But if they are just flying past they just call back and carry on their way Would love to be able to use electronic callers here, but again, would need one in the correct dialect. Mate had an American one, and didn't work well, so he recorded locally, installed that, and works perfect. He just has to make sure he doesn't get caught LOL
