just like to say hello, im based in the UK, and nearly all my crow shooting is on hog farms, we are lucky we have 3 'crows' to shoot over here, the carrion crow, rook, and jackdaw which is the smallest of the lot, our carrion crow i think is simular to what you guy shoot in the states, and is the number one on my list as it does so much damage to young birds and nests, i use decoys and a 'magnet' to decoy them in, a magnet we use is just a couple of dead crows spinning round on metal arms with a 12 volt motor attached, it is deadly for jackdaws and pulls crows in as well, i also use a flapper to great effect, when i can work out how to post pics, i will put a few up of my hunts, look forward to joining in with the you guys on the forum, cheers.
Welcome Corvid. I would like to be the first to welcome you to our site. I have a friend that has visited the UK to hunt crows and jaks and his discription of the hunting there is alot different than here in the states. He said he was hunting over mostly open hog lots and when the dead birds hit the ground the hogs would run to eat them? They used blinds similar to the way we set up on fields here but we have woods as a back drop but they just put blinds up in the middle of the hog lots. Anyway, we have a lot in common and welcome the chance to share experiences and ideas to make us all better crowmen.
hopefully ive worked out how to upload pics, should be my decoy lay out and the bag at the end of the day, most of the birds are young jackdaws, that decoy in fairly well, somtimes they come in small flocks and by keep calling them you can get them to come back to the decoys even when your shot a few from the flock, cheers
Good work. Keep the pics coming. It looks like you know what your doing. We are not so lucky here in the states when we shoot at a flock. You can call some in the flock back, but that comes with much experience in calling.
