For those interested! I got a tip from a friend to check this site out "Muller Choke Tubes". I did and was impressed with my findings. I had a chance this past weekend to see one in action. It very well could be the new hottie of choke tubes. Lighter with more consistant patterns. No endorsement, just information to pass along.
Patternmaster chokes are what all the guys use up here for ducks and geese. They are ported and have nubs in the inside to slow the wad as it leaves the barrel creating dead nuts patterns and retains almost all velocity at long ranges. They are crazy good
Choke tubes are like A--holes, everybody has one, but some are better than others. You can not go on the assumption that just because my buddy has one it is what I want. To see the real difference you have to pattern your gun with the choke. Using the same shell each time, shot your gun at 25,35,45,55 & 65 yards on a very large sheet of paper with a crow drawn on it. Then count the pellets or hits, then check the density of the pattern of each shot. Do this with your Pattern Master, your Carlson, your Browning, etc. and then a Muller. Compare the different chokes and see for yourself. My point is, there is a difference and most of us have to prove it to ourselves. New technology keeps changing our sport of hunting for the most part to our advantage. Keep up with it!
Just for a reference: My choice of chokes are Imp. Cyl. or Light Mod.
