Yesterday was our last day of our 2012-2013 crow season. We had no real game plan but just had to go. We decided to just do some leisure Run-N-Gun with no direction in mind just see em in the field and try to hunt em. It was a little windy so getting up wind was a problem at times. We were not very successful with our method this day. There were not alot of birds in the fields so we ended riding most of the morning with only four setups. When we stopped for lunch we had only killed 42 birds. After lunch we headed to a field that we had hunted last week with good results and there were a good number of birds on the field, but when we started calling they looked like someone had yelled fire, fire, fire and they hauled buggy. We stuck it out for about 45 minutes and only killed five, so off we go riding again. In the next two hours we stopped four more times and only killed 12 more. Just as luck would have it, we were heading back home and saw two birds sitting in some trees over a pine plantation which indicated to me some birds were going to roost there. We found a hide about a half a mile up wind from them and you know it, our best stand of the day. They were the most agreesive birds of the day and came in a pair at the time, most of them were floating up against the wind, which made for easy kills. We managed to milk it for all it was worth getting a total of 19 there. That is one of those setups you wish had 100 birds roosting there, but not this time. Great way to end our day and end our season on a strong note. Thanks to my friends for making this one of our best all around seaons. Look so forward to next year, we made some strong connections with some farmers this year and they are looking forward to us returning to help with their crow problems. TBC for this hunt was 73. This puts us over the 2,000 mark for this year.
