Our season is coming to a close so I have been trying to squeeze in a few extra hunts. Friday was kinda special for me, I got to take my son-in-law that only gets to go with me once a year. I had one other A-Team member join us for what turned out to be a super day for three guys. We had no game plan, so we just headed out and did a day of Run-N-Gun. I think we made 15 setups and walked away with 94 birds. You got to like it!
Today we had big plans to run some TBC numbers up with the A-Team but for the second time this year we could only hunt with three members because of snow/ice. The member that gets slighted from the weather lives two hours west of us and he gets some icy roads from time to time sooooooooo, the show goes on without him. He understands, but hates it! The same weather that kept him from coming was suppose to get to us by noon. Get this, 49F at 12:00 and 32F at 2:30 and snowing, crazy for sure. We met at a local fast food about 30 minutes from home so we could get at least a half day in before the storm, we did just that. I had a few spots picked out over some peanut fields that had not been hunted in hopes of good numbers quick. Kinda worked, the first two fields the wind was wrong so we could not reach the birds with full effect but we did OK, killing in the 30's. The last field I had in mind was about 25 miles across the river from where we started, so off we went trying to beat the weather. We did make two quick roll outs on the way with little sucess only getting around 10 more birds. When we pulled up to the field the birds were everywhere feeding for all they were worth ahead of the storm. This time the wind was in our favor and everything played out just right. Two hours of good shooting resulted in everyone shooting over 20 birds each, then Ole Man winter moved in and we called it quits around 1:30, not before a TBC of 119. Having a good year and loving it.
