I had mentioned in one of my post about hunting in the fog last week. Really my first experience after 30 years of crowing of hunting in thick fog. I was curious about other hunters experiences crowing in the fog and how did your birds respond ?
I find fog is excellent, and gives some really good shots, but also some spectacular misses if you miss them coming in due to looking elsewhere. You need a good caller though, and a magpie sound seems to work well in fog, combines with a good decoy pattern of pigeon and crow. They seem to feel secure then
sadly the only good flightline i have for crows runs right along a footpath, but that will change when the pig units get moved next harvest, as one unit will be then right under a good flightline, so im looking forward to that.
You don't have to be directly under the flight path, just so they can see it from the flightline and hear your calls. I'm often 50-100 metres from the flightline, and yet they come, remember, you have less good eyesight than the crows, and you are looking into a white wall, whereas they are looking down through the fog to see decoys silhouetted against the ground, so much easier for them to see the decoys than you to see them, and they will hear the calls and come over a bit to look. Also, being in the fog means that of you only move very slow, they won't see you until its too late
