On Fridday it rained and blew with gale force winds until 12 noon. A local member of the A Team called me and said "let's try it". the forecast was for quick clearing in the afternoon. So off we go for a local hunt at 1:00pm. The birds were feeding in small pods everwhere after the stormy morning. We still had strong winds but the sun was shinning bright. We would make stands and average about 7 birds per stand until about an hour before dark. We found a roost where we ran the numbers up in the last stand to round us out at 96 birds. That my friend is a good afternoon shoot.
Sat: After a few weeks of not being able to hunt together as a group the A Team reunites for a large number day. We all come from different directions and meet at a local fast food breakfast resturant called Bojangles for a bisquit before we head out at 7:00 am. One member drives close to two hours and others about an hour (devotion). The day was perfect, light winds and morning temps around 35 F and a daytime high of 58 F. After breakfast we had a 30 minute drive to our hunting grounds. Once there it was game on. We did not have a field set up all day. We made 22 stands in a 30 mile radius. All members had equal shooting and for what birds we had the percentage of shot to kill ratio was very high. It was one of those days where the birds were not feeding in the fields, so we converted our efforts to blind calling. Every piece of woods that we could get permission and that held adequate cover, we tried. There were very few stands that did not produce birds in good numbers. Using this method, we destroyed 173 crows.
