First Assault of the 2012, Jan. 6

It was good to gather the A-Team back together for our first assault of 2012.  It was a perfect day, moderate winds and overcast skies.  We only made six stands all day, Friday Jan. 6.  We were lucky enough early in the morning to find a flock of birds feeding in a peanut field that was surrounded by a large creek bottom that ran for miles.  The birds were using the bottom as a water source and a flyway.  Access was the issue, we had to cross this creek bottom and walk through the woods for about a 1,000 yards to reach the field edge.  Needless to say the old crew is a little out of shape, but once we reached the field the show was on.  These were virgin birds and they came to the calls as ordered.  The team may be out of shape but the shooting was spot on.  Not a lot of the bandits escaped.  We held our position for about two and a half hours and put to rest 83 dark birds. A great shoot.  We came out only on a decission to make a few run and gun stands to give the flock a rest so we possibly could shoot them another day.  The few run and gun stands produced but not like a feeding flock.  We managed to round out the day with 103 confirmed kills.
